The MP Birla group flagship company, Birla Corporation, has signed an MoU with the Assam Mineral Development Corporation, to set up a 1 mn tonne Greenfield cement plant in Assam. The JV project, is proposed to be set up at Umrangsu, in the North Cachar Hills district, at a cost of Rs 450 crore. At present Birla Corporation has cement manufacturing plants at Durgapur (West Bengal), Raebareli (Uttar Pradesh), Satna (Madhya Pradesh) and Chanderia (Rajasthan) with a total production capacity of over 7 mn tonne.
